Xulfi now among the maestros of bollywood…

A young talent from Pakistan made his name out in the international market ( India) despite the turbulent relations with the neighboring country. Xulfi managed to make his presence felt by earning a nomination at the Indian Radio awards as the best new upcoming singer for the movie ‘Aasma’

Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan a.k.a. Xulfi was recognized as a band member(guitarist) of Entity paradigm with the release of their debut album ‘irtiqa’ in 2003.  He showcased his vocal talents in E.P’s most successful single ‘Waqt’. But he made his mark with the release of ‘Laree Chutee’. This success acted as a catalyst for further ventures in bollywood industry resulting in numerous songs sung by Xulfi. It looks like that Xulfi has dug deep into bollywood and is there to inspire more and will keep spreading his melodies in the world for long and good.

Radio Mirchi Awards 2009 were held in Mumbai on the 10th Day of February 2010 AD. at the Bandra Kurla Complex. Xulfi gets nominated for his song ‘Yah Pal’ which he sang for the movie ‘Aasmaa’ for the category of Best Upcoming Male Singer.

Reh Jaane Do, a beautiful sad number composed, written and sung by Xulfi who is fresh, innovative and immensely talented with an incredible set of vocals. Musically the track is fantastic as the violins and the cello take your breath away with soul-stirring lyrics to match.

Xulfi graces us with his presence again with Kuch Aisa. Another amazing number from the talented band member of Call, who has also composed the number himself (the amazing guitar work has been done by him as well) and co-written the lyrics with Danish Khan, an ex-band-member of Call. The track soars to new heights just before the song ends with the uplifting finale and is undoubtedly the crowning glory of the number. The lyrics though slightly sad and hopeful, have something beautiful and optimistic about them and have been well penned by Danish and Xulfi.

In short, Aao Wish Karein, is a beautiful, fresh sounding album courtesy of the talented Xulfi, Mike McCleary and Ankur Tewari. It is easy listening and you will be hearing some of the sweetest sounding numbers of 2009. Xulfi’s ‘Kuch Aisa’ and ‘Reh Jaane Do’ are the highlights of the album followed by the various versions of ‘Sabse Peeche’. It is a must have for fans of Kunal Ganjawala, Sunidhi Chauhan and Xulfi. Arguably, it may not be one of those high-profile albums with the pre-release hype, but Aao Wish Karein is beautifully composed and equally well-written, and it definitely deserves a shot. Aao wish karein that many other music enthusiasts feel the same way.

Enter Xulfi of Call the Band with a quintessential Paki rock track, Reh Jaane Do. One thing I like about Xulfi’s compositions is that they almost always feature some exquisite violin bits (Eg. Laree Chootee), and even in this case he manages to fit in a wonderful violin sequence towards the end of the interlude, which then proceeds on to the antara. Kuch Aisa again comes from Xulfi in his own voice, and would have you engaged by way of its arrangement and variations in pace of rendition.

Xulfi comes up with the best track of the album in the form of ‘Kuch Aisa‘ (which comes in both the upbeat and ‘sad version’). If there is a song that deserves to be heavily promoted as of this very moment, it is ‘Kuch Aisa‘. Unfortunately, since there is a very small window between the music and the film release, it seems like quite a difficult task for this romantic melodious number to reach out to its target audience in a big way. It’s the kind of song that most film makers would have loved to incorporate in their films as Xulfi has done quite well in playing the triple role of singer, composer and lyricist (with Danish Khan).

Xulfi’s latest venture into Bollywood includes writing, singing and composing two songs for a movie “Aao Wish Karein” starring Aftab Shivdasani and Aamna Shareef. The songs are Kuch Aisa and Reh Jaane Do. Kuch Aisa is a romantic number while Reh Jaane Do is a thought provoking journey into a heart broken mind. The movie’s in an out and out entertainer and revolves around a fairy tailish story line.

Another song for Bollywood, Dhadke Jiya, has been released by Call. The song has been written, composed and sung by Xulfi. The movie’s called “Aloo Chaat” and it stars Aftab Shivdasani and Aamna Shareef
